The interviews with the artists who collaborated in the creation of the book “The Big Lebowski Art Collection” continues. Today we present Erica Coppa from USA.

Erica is currently a student at Macomb Community College. She is double majoring in Interactive Web Media and Deisgn & Layout. After school She plan to work as a freelancer selling her art and making websites.

1 – Describe how it was the first time you saw the movie “The Great Lebowski”

EC – The first time that I had watched The Big Lebowski, I was attending school at Adrian College in Michigan. My boyfriend at the time loved the movie so he suggested that we should watch it. I remember falling instantly in love with the characters and how different they all were. The Dude was the leader of the group. Walter was an unpredictable Vietnam vet. And Donnie was the mild-mannered sidekick.

2 – To give readers an idea of your art try to describe what are some of your cultural references. At least 3 sources of inspiration that are important to you and why

EC – My art is mostly minimalistic. I am very attracted to art that can show the most minimal work but still tell a story without major details. It fascinates me how the mind can put together all the details of somebody’s face or know who a person is by the most minimal images.

3 – Describe what is your environment where you live and where you work

EC – My environment in where I live is a small city called Macomb, Michigan USA. I am currently working at a plant in Shelby, Michigan USA called Champion Laboratories. Although, it does not pertain to what I want to do in my future, I still get a lot of inspirations while working there. I am a full-time student at Macomb Community College and will be graduating in Spring of 2018 with a double major in Design & Layout and Interactive Web Media and Development. I usually spend my free time with my family and friends. We normally all go to local bars/clubs on the weekends. My favorite place to be is my apartment. I love to be inside or on my porch looking at the lake behind my building and work on my Web or Graphic Designs. It is very peaceful and ideas just come to me faster.

4 – Indicate which of 2 of the artists you attend regularly and what you think are the most you can find today in your creative environment

EC – My inspiration for wanting to create minimalist posters is Chungkong. Chungkong is a Netherlands based designer. Chungkong spends time creating his own artwork, his posters are really eye catching. Chungkong strips the subjects down to their bare bones and brings them to life in vibrant and playful designs, covering a variety of subjects from cult movies, books and sports.

5 – Now that we are at the end. Try to explain what is the “Big Lebowski” for you and why do you think it has so much influence the world of graphics and illustration

EC – The Big Lebowski for me is more than just a comedy. The Coen brothers had may inspirations and ideas for these characters they were bringing to life in movie. I believe the film has so much influence to the work of graphic and illustrations because it’s just a very funny premise for a film. The Dude (Jeffrey Lebowski) is a listless L.A. pothead wiling away the early 1990s playing in a recreational bowling league with friends Walter Sobchak and Donny Kerabatsos. When a pair of clumsy thugs confuse the Dude with another Jeffrey Lebowski – peeing on his prized rug– the Dude is thrown into a whacky adventure that involves a family feud, a gang of nihilists, the avant-garde art world, the SoCal porn scene, lost homework, Tara Reid and a missing toe.

1 – Descrivi come è andata la prima volta che hai visto il film “Il grande Lebowski”..

EC – La prima volta che ho visto The Big Lebowski, frequentavo la scuola all’Adrian College in Michigan. Il mio ragazzo in quel momento adorava il film, quindi mi ha detto che dovevamo assolutamente guardarlo. Ricordo di essermi innamorata all’istante dei personaggi e di quanto fossero strambi. Il Drug era il leader del gruppo. Walter era un veterano del Vietnam imprevedibile e Donnie era l’aiutante mite.

2 – Per dare ai lettori un’idea della tua arte, prova a descrivere quelli che sono alcuni dei tuoi riferimenti culturali, almeno 3 fonti di ispirazione che sono per te importanti e il perché

EC – La mia arte è per lo più minimalista. Sono molto attratto dall’arte che può mostrare la parte più minimale del soggetto per riuscire a raccontare comunque una storia senza omettere i dettagli importanti. Mi affascina come la mente possa mettere insieme tutti i dettagli del volto di qualcuno o sapere chi è una persona dalle immagini più minimali..

3 – Descrivi quello che è il tuo ambiente dove vivi e dove lavori.

EC – L’ambiente in cui vivo è una piccola città chiamata Macomb, Michigan, USA. Attualmente sto lavorando in uno stabilimento di Shelby, Michigan, negli USA, chiamato Champion Laboratories. Anche se non è proprio ciò che voglio fare in futuro, non è male. Sono una studente a tempo pieno al Macomb Community College e mi diplomerò nella primavera del 2018 con un doppio incarico in Design & Layout e Interactive Web Media and Development. Di solito trascorro il mio tempo libero con la mia famiglia e gli amici. Normalmente andiamo tutti nei bar / club locali nei fine settimana. Il mio posto preferito è il mio appartamento. Mi piace stare sotto il mio portico a guardare il lago dietro casa mia e lavorare da li sul Web o sul Graphic Designs. E ‘molto tranquillo e le idee mi arrivano più velocemente.

4 – Indica quali sono 2 degli artisti che segui regolarmente e che pensi siano il massimo che si può trovare oggi nell’ambiente creativo

EC – La mia ispirazione per i poster minimalisti è Chungkong. Chungkong è un designer con sede in Olanda. I lavori di Chungkong sono davvero accattivanti. Chungkong spoglia i soggetti fino alle loro ossa nude e li riporta alla vita con disegni vivaci e giocosi, coprendo una varietà di soggetti da film di culto, libri e sport

5 – Adesso che siamo alla fine, prova a spiegare cosa rappresenta per te “Il grande Lebowski” e perché pensi che abbia così tanto influenzato il mondo della grafica e dell’illustrazione

EC – The Big Lebowski per me è più di una semplice commedia. I fratelli Coen hanno avuto ispirazione e idee meravigliose per questi personaggi che popolano il film. The Dude (Jeffrey Lebowski) è un personaggio di L.A. dei primi anni ’90 che gioca in una lega di bowling amatoriale con gli amici Walter Sobchak e Donny Kerabatsos. Quando un paio di teppisti goffi confondono il Dude con un altro Jeffrey Lebowski – fanno cioè la pipì sul suo prezioso tappeto – il Dude viene gettato in un’avventura bizzarra che coinvolge una faida familiare, una banda di nichilisti, il mondo dell’arte d’avanguardia, la scena porno di SoCal, chi ha perso i propri compiti scolastici, Tara Reid e un dito del piede mancante.
